MAGGIE SCHUBART

(November 13, 1916-October 2, 2010)

Maggie, born Margaret Cecilia O’Connell in Rochester, New York, passed away Saturday, October 2,  at home at the age of 93. She had been ill for some time and was comfortable with this final change. Maggie had lost her husband Hank in 1998 and remembered him with profound tenderness, akin to the gentle care that she offered to her children, Peter and wife Jill (Los Altos Hills, California), Michael and wife Maralyn (Salt Spring Island), Daniel and wife Erica (Port Alberni, B.C.), Matthew (Thurston County, Washington), Paul (Vancouver, B.C. and Salt Spring Island) and Gabrielle and husband Ujjval (Chicago, Illinois) as well as Hank’s two daughters, Mallory and husband Ralph Pred (Salt Spring Island) and Linda Hawkins (Berkeley, California),  throughout her life. She also leaves a legacy of quiet and persistent activism and a legion of friends and colleagues with whom she has worked in social and artistic endeavours.  As per Maggie’s stated wishes, there will be no service, and in lieu of flowers, she requested that people make donations to the local chapter of the Voice of Women in care of Marg Simons at 135 Hilltop Pl., Salt Spring Island, V8K 1V9
