HARLAND OWEN OLSEN

The family are saddened to announce the passing of Harland on Tuesday, Sept 22 at age 85. He grew up in New Westminster with his 2 sisters and stayed to raise a family and carry on the family business; McLeod Cleaners.

The family spent many joyful summers cruising around the Gulf Islands on boats Harland helped design and build. He was Commodore of the Royal City Yacht Club and a very active member for a number of years. A love for the ocean

and social gatherings with wonderful friends were precious to Harland. He then moved to Salt Spring Island where he and his loving wife Gwen opened Heritage Boutique and Harlan’s Chocolates. His chocolates continue to be popular with locals and tourists today. Harland will always be remembered for his creativity and his love of woodworking/carving and construction. They moved to Nanaimo in 2000 to enjoy retirement.

Harland is survived by his wife Gwen, daughters Marlene & Elaine, stepchildren Sherry, Cindy & Cory & 4 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. The family is grateful to the wonderful staff at Nanaimo Seniors Village for his care. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the charity of your choice in Harland’s memory.
