A short introduction and creation time for zines (homemade non-commercial publications) led by Regan Shrumm. Salt Spring Public Library. 2 to 4 p.m. Free.
Are you interested in learning about self-publishing? Is there an issue, story, movement, emotion, etc. that you want to share? Let’s make a book about it! We will run through a quick introduction about what zines are, the power that is held within self-publishing and how we can all make these simple yet powerful books. We will provide some of the tools for zine-making, including paper, glue, scissors and cheap magazines. Most of the workshop will be spent putting together our books and hanging out. Let’s come together and inspire each other to create. The workshop is a part of the programming for the exhibition Forgotten Females of Salt Spring Island, which is curated by Regan Shrumm through the Salt Spring Arts Council’s Artist in Residence program.
Snacks provided.
