William W. Best

September 9, 1929 – June 27, 2013

William (Bill) Best was born in Calgary and passed away at Greenwoods Eldercare, Salt Spring Island. He was predeceased by his wife Roberta (Bobbie) Best in 1992 and is survived by four children, Bryan Best (Trish), Beverly Best, Barbara Nielson, Kathy Hetter, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Bill was founder of The Gulf Islands Association for People with Disabilities and is well known on the Gulf Islands for his tireless advocacy on behalf of the disabled. In 1994 he travelled to Ottawa to receive a Canada Volunteer Award and Certificate of Honour for his work. In addition to his passion for human rights, Bill loved boating and freelance photography.

His family extends thanks to Bill’s special friend, Pat Hafting of SSI, and the incredible staff at Greenwoods. No funeral service by request.
