Mary Francis (Doddy) KIRKPATRICK

Mary Frances Kirkpatrick (Doody)

June 25, 1929 – Nov. 14, 2015

Mary Frances Kirkpatrick (Doody) passed peacefully surrounded by her beloved family. Mary was born in St John’s, Newfoundland on June 25, 1929 and was predeceased by her brother Kevin Doody and brother Senator C. William Doody.

Mary was a nursing sister in the RCAF where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Kirkpatrick. A true “Newfie” through and through, Mary’s love of the ocean took her from one “rock” on the Atlantic to another on the Pacific, Salt Spring Island.

Mary’s many years at Southey Point were filled with time spent hosting family get togethers, watching the sunsets, clamming, feeding the eagles and hummingbirds, playing cards, and most importantly, enjoying her eleven grandchildren. Her many passions included crossword puzzles, bowling, mahjong, bridge with her Southey Point ladies, and Tai Chi, which Mary pursued well into her 80’s. She was very proud of her blue ribbon dill pickles and blackberry jelly which she proudly gifted every Christmas.

Mary was a woman of great faith and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Salt Spring Island. Always ready for a party, Mary loved to dance and sing her “Newfie” ditties. Her sense of humour and one-liners left all in stitches.

Family was everything to Mary. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert (Bob) Kirkpatrick, and her five children: Joanne (Larry), Russell (Linda), Michael (Patti), Donald (Linda), HB (Lisa). Mary was the fun-loving grandmother to Kirk, Shaun, Alex, Jill, Jamie, Maggie, Meagan, Tanner, Emilee, Lauren and Riley. She is also survived by her sister, who held a very special place in her heart, Florence Fagan (Doody).

“My Beautiful Bride”, “Mom”, “Gramma”, “Mary, Mary Quite Contrary”, you will always be in our thoughts, our prayers and our hearts. We love you so much and will miss you forever.

Service to be held January 2, 2016 at Our Lady of Grace Parish, 135 Drake Road, Salt Spring Island, BC at 1:00 pm with a Reception to follow.
