HARALD REPEN

passed away peacefully on April 15th, 2011 in Smithers, B.C. Born in Hamburg, Germany on July 12th, 1933, Harald emigrated to Canada in the early 1950’s

Always adventurous, Harald engaged in a wide variety of vocations, including lithography, mining, logging, fruit picking, and working on the railroad. He was always an avid gardener and outdoorsman. He married Regina (Berndt) in 1967 and together they raised sons Darcy and Curtis in Mackenzie, B.C. Harald took an early retirement in 1989 and moved to Salt Spring Island, where he pursued his lifelong passion of growing gardens. He was much appreciated by his many landscaping clients and produce customers for his attention to detail, quality, and his sense of humor.

Harald is survived by his sister Inge de Osorio (Nestor) of Hamburg, sons Curtis (Karen) of Bolton Ontario, and Darcy (Paula) of Telkwa B.C., and grandsons Jarvis, Jacob and Finlay of Telkwa.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Bastian and Dr. Haskins of Smithers, Dr. Leon of Salt Spring Island, the nursing staff at both hospitals, and the Smithers home support staff. To friends Margaretha and Ron, Sharon and Gary, Irene and Oria – Harald’s eyes lit up at the mention of your names during his time in Telkwa.

A celebration of Harald’s life will be held at Meaden Hall, 120 Blaine Road, Salt Spring Island on Saturday, May 7th from 5-7 P.M.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
