ARCHIE BLACK

Passed away March 16, 2011. Archie was a true gentleman. His family looked up to him because they could depend on him to stick to his principles of fairness and honesty.

After completing his pharmacy training as a very young man he was very proud to defend his country for six years during World War II. He served in the Air Force in numerous capacities commencing with Navigator-Bombardier, next as a Radar Specialist and lastly as a Flying Officer (pilot). For many of the years he was stationed in Whitstable, England. After the war ended he continued to serve in the Reserve Forces.

He called himself a lucky man saying he had two of the best women in the world when he married Ginny after Kas passed away.

Archie had a great sense of humour right to the end. He loved to square dance, golf play tennis and entertain. He was a life member of the Salt Spring Island Golf Club.

During his many years as a pharmacist he was an important part of the community.

At dinners with friends or family he always brought out his travelling bar and started the occasion with Happy Hour. Rye and 7 and water was his signature drink. Archie had many good friends, and he will be greatly missed especially by Bob MacKay and George Morris (Moose, air force buddy).

Thanks to the staff in the Duncan Hospital and Chemainus Health Care Center, who cared for him and eased his journey. Also our special thanks to Dr. Broere for his extraordinary care. We are very grateful.

There will be a Memorial Service and Reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall #191, 9775 Chemainus Road Chemainus, BC on March 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be offered at telfordn@shaw.ca.
