MARGARET K. (PEARL) MOTION

Pearl was born and raised in Edinburgh Scotland. At the age of 19 in 1942 she joined the RAF and was posted to India where she served until the end of the War. She returned to Scotland, married Bert and had her only child “wee Bobbie”. The family emigrated to Canada in 1957, initially settling in Victoria but moving to Salt Spring Island in 1962 where Pearl lived the remainder of her life.

Pearl was a “working woman” at a time when a woman’s place was in the home. She was a Court shorthand-typist in India and Scotland. In Canada she worked for an insurance company and then Saltspring Insurance Agency before obtaining her real estate license and opening the second real estate office on Salt Spring Island under BC Land & Insurance Agency.

Pearl lost Bert in 1986 and it wasn’t until she and Bob Petty became “an item” that she had her second chance at happiness. Bob gave Pearl another kick at life and the two were like inseparable teenagers. Bob took Pearl camping all over BC (she never liked camping til Bob came around – go figure). Pearl took Bob on two cruises (Bob had never been on a cruise before). They doted on each other and enjoyed a wonderful 14 years together.

Thank you Bob for making my mum so very happy.

Pearl Motion was my mum and to me she was the best mum in the world.

An intimate service was held on Mount Maxwell, Salt Spring Island on Sept 28 2010

As Pearl would have said,

“Lang May Your Lum Reek”
