KENNETH JOSEPH PAUL BENNETT

(1948 – 2010}

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Bennett. Ken’s life journey ended suddenly, but peacefully, on Thursday night January 7th, 2010. He leaves behind his loving wife and soul mate of 35 years, Pat (Lougheed) Bennett and their loyal canine family Buddy, Ruby and Oscar. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Zoethout & partner Terry, sister Rosemary Smith & partner Dale McRae of Guelph Ontario, sister-in-law Jan Morrison & partner Ugis Bruveris of Claremont, Ontario; nieces and nephews Alisha, Chad, Jason, and Kristine. Predeceased by father William Joseph Bennett (1983) & mother Helen Gertrude Bennett (2004).

Ken was an artist all of his life. His creative genius found an outlet in his wood sculptures which gained him international recognition. In more recent years on Salt Spring, Ken returned to pottery and sculpting in clay. Ken and Pat met at Ryerson University while studying design and fell instantly and deeply in love. That love endured through 37 years of living and working together, sharing all aspects of their lives, including their creative processes.

Family and friends will remember Ken for his joyful, loving nature, his generosity of spirit and remarkable passion for life. He will be sorely missed.

No funeral service, by request. Friends will be notified of the date when we will gather in celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Lady Minto Hospital would be much appreciated.

Pat wishes to gratefully acknowledge the valiant efforts of the SSI First Responders, the BCAF Paramedics & the staff of Lady Minto Hospital.
