Harold Brochmann

Harold Brochmann

November 18, 1935 – March 27, 2013

Born in Oslo, Norway November 18, 1935 passed away after a lengthy illness on Salt Spring Island March 27, 2013.

A true Norseman always comfortable in a boat.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Candace, daughter Kari (Ty) granddaughter Keira of Atlanta, Georgia, son Craig of Toronto, Ontario, stepdaughters Kelly Langill, Christine Gray (Travis) and grandchildren Therese and Damien Gray of North Vancouver. Also many cousins in Norway. Predeceased by son Michael.

Harold’s varied teaching career took him from Nova Scotia to Ghana, St. Vincent, and culminated in North Vancouver. He retired to Salt Spring Island where his passion for sailing (Whisper and Gypsy) and pruning maple trees was unlimited. Harold was involved with Eggheads, on the Board of Directors at Greenwoods, Library Board and was past Commodore at the Salt Spring Island Sailing Club.

“Harold has always been the owner of a restless intellect, a man who could not bear to let things pass without understanding them in detail. Although physically robust it was his mind that made him such good company. He was especially determined when he came across a statement that was supposedly supported by fact or ‘statistics’, to actually make sure that the ‘facts’ were real facts and that the statistics actually supported the conclusions”

“Harold was a much loved curmudgeon, full of wit and intelligence and will be badly missed by everyone who knew and loved him”

A heart felt thank you for the amazing love and support shown to Harold and myself during this emotional time. We are so fortunate to live on this beautiful island surrounded by such compassionate friends, Home Care nurses and Caregivers. Thank you Dr. Reznick and Jean.

A herring and aquavit gathering to be announced. “God bless us everyone.”
