SWOVA workshops talk about sex, respect and relationships

Upcoming talking circles will offer open, honest and safe dialogue between youth and parents about the realities of healthy relationships, intimacy and sex.

SWOVA is offering the workshop for parents and youth on Feb. 14 and 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gulf Islands Secondary School.

Called Let’s Talk about Respect, Relationships and Sex, the sessions will be an intergenerational dialogue around self-esteem, boundaries, assertive communication, influence of the media, and healthy relationships with self and others.

“We will be facilitating separate gender talking circles, and the event is trans and questioning positive,” notes press material.

With a limit of 12 youth and 12 adults per workshop on each evening, advance registration is required. Call SWOVA at 250-537-1336 or e-mail to info@swova.org to reserve a spot.

The events are part of a series of sexual health workshops that will take place at GISS for students, where health-care professionals will present workshops along with SWOVA facilitators.

A sexual health fair held during a lunch break is also in the works.

The workshop series and fair are funded by the Salt Spring and Victoria foundations.
